The ed keating center is a non-profit facility established in october 1998. The center was founded in the name of the late ed keating.
Ed was a pioneer in the field of sports management and business agent for the many local and national sports athletes and television and radio personalities.
Professionally, he was a legend but ed will always be remembered for helping destitute alcoholics and addicts recover regardless of their past.
Our founders, Jack Muhall, Phyliss Eisele-Curran, and Dennis Eckersley have more than 85 years combined service in saving mens lives. Many of those years with stella maris and later at freedom house.
What we doAdmission to the ed keating center is based on two qualifications. First, you are and adult male who suffers from the disease of alcohol and drug addiction. Second, and most important, you must be sincerely committed to getting sober, changing your life, and becoming responsible, productive people again.
The keating center differs from other alcohol and drug treatment facilities because we believe recovery should be made available to any man who wants to change regardless of their ability to pay. More than 90% of the men we help arrive at our doors destitute, but we don’t turn them away because they don’t have insurance or can’t pay for treatment.
The keating center does not take state, local or county funding. Instead we depend on the private support of generous people, organizations and the men who have gone through our facility to keep the keating center up and running.
Programs... "how it works."The Keating Center offers a variety of services:
A six month in-house rehab program in which residents attend group meetings facilitated by experienced recovering men. Also, residents must get a sponsor and attend a-a meetings every night.
Once the resident completes the in-house program, he advances to our three-quarter house program. He works so he can financially help himself but is still part of the center’s supervised program and must attend seven mandatory a-a meetings as a reminder “that staying sober must come first.” Also three-quarter house residents attend mandatory after-care meetings once a week.
Work releaseThe keating center offers a work release program. Clients live in a structured, sober environment, go to work, and attend groups in the evening.
Proceeds from the work release programs are used to operate our sober living facilities, as well as the generousity of outside donors for the men who could not afford treatment.
Tremendous support also comes from former residents who volunteer on a daily basis. They help make the Ed Keating Center a successful and life-saving program for men who want to be clean and sober.
